I just spent many hours reading ALL of the posts in this tribe, and the tears are still flowing. I NEED to see you all on the playa this year. I want to reconnect, share stories and give hugs.

I'll be camping with Silicone Village at 6:30 and C, and there is a huge bar there that should be able to support a good sized group. I know it's last minute, so I'm asking that you post a reply for me here to see if you're up for getting together. I'm thinking Thursday afternoon, a few hours before sunset.

Who's up for that?

I want to give out some gifts to you all, hopefully I'll be able to get them all finished in time. Let's see how many people can show up...

I miss you guys so much it's making me cry again.

For those not going, let me make a suggestion for bringing smiles on the playa even though you can't make it. Get the playa address and the camp name of a couple friends that are going. Then around august 20th, mail a box of goodies (liquor, toys, stamps, envelops, etc.) to that person on the playa. Yes the playa has a post office. What you do is have a box for each person with their stuff in it along with the name (nickname) the name of the camp and playa address on the outside (don't forget to decorate). Then put those boxes in one box that is addressed to the following:

c/o BRCPO
Burning Man
Black Rock City, NV 89412

At the black rock post office they will open the box and take out the smaller boxes and deliver them. Be sure to include a nice note inside the big box thanking the BRC postal workers and a gift such as liquor or other item for the post workers is suggested after all they are traipsing accross the playa to deliver your mail.

I've done this the past two years that I have missed going and the recipients of my packages have been overwhelmed each time. So this year I will definitely be volunteering at the post office.

My plans for the playa this year are going to be entirely different from '05. I'm going to be building a similar sized camp, but I'll likely have a more dedicated public area this time, as opposed to just my sleep and recover space that was shared with a friend. I don't know exactly where I'm camping yet, but I imagine it will be with a crossover group of people from RWB, Arizona and Nuc Fam.

If you've been to Lightning in a Bottle, Lucent L'amour, or the dome at
Coachella, then you know how much love and energy we pour into our events.
With Lucent Delirium we're going to take it to the next level. The Do LaB
has been working around the clock to ensure that Oct 1st
will be spectacular, certainly our greatest event yet, and we are excited
to share it with all of you.

What's in store for Lucent Delirium?

First off, we've teamed up with Lorin (Bassnectar) to help him release his
newest album "Mesmerizing the Ultra". He'll be playing a 2 hour set on a 4
corner turbo sound system shaking the bricks loose in the building. The
albums great, go check it out...

We're also bringing in world renowned dj Cheb i Sabbah as our special guest
to help us celebrate with his unique sounds of world music and bhangra beats.

And to spice things up a bit, we're having the dusty duo that rocked the
flower art car at Burning Man with their sexy acid jazz, Helios Jive! They
score the incredible music for Lucent Dossier and they bring us to our feet
every time!!!! If you've seen them before, then you've most likely danced
your booty off. It's fun, its fresh, its sexy, its the jive!

Also sharing their beats with us are the underground favorites David
Starfire, Patricio, Porter Tinsley, Jupiter, Dandelion, and Sammy Bliss.
Each of these dj's have been making waves in their respective communities
and we're bringing them all together for one night of madness.

The fun certainly doesn’t stop there though... We've got crazy entertainment
popping out of every corner starting with the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville
Cirque. They've been dancing up a storm and there's a new wacky show in
store for you.

Plus from San Diego, a sensual fire belly dance performance by the beautiful
ladies of Atash Maya and a cute and sassy show by DangerSassyPants.
You can also catch pieces of "Fancy", a one man clown
show by none other than Vladimir Levitansky, or gaze at an enormous junk
wall while master painters Shrine, Carlos, Jesse, and Shannon paint the hell
out of it in front of your eyes. Stop by the Stardust Salon and have
extensions put into your hair or visit Buddha Monkey's Bag of Accessories
and add a little something to bring your outfit to life. We'll also have
body painting and henna tattoos, and if you're feeling crafty you can mold
clay in a workshop with Christian the Blacksmith. Or just roam the gallery
to check out the art on the walls and sit back and relax in the
headphone lounge. Hungry? Grab an organic vegan snack
from PlayFood and re-energize, cause the music's still banging and there's lots
of fun to be had!!

There's so much more madness to tell you about, but you'll have to come and see
it for yourself. We're super excited about it and we hope you are too!!

Much love,

I know this is a long shot, but we are looking for photos or viedo of our little impromptu fire jam shortly after the man burned. I realize there are quite a few of them, but this one was somewhere between 9:30-11:00. A group of drummers showed up, in addition to a fellow with an electric bass guitar towed by his bike -- wonderful stuff for spinning, and all in all quite the little gathering.

To help jog your memory, I was topless, wearing black leather chaps, black leggings, and a red bandaner and spinning poi. One of the other girl poi spinners had long blonde dreds and there was also a guy spinning staff. Any photos or video would be wonderful!

Over the last week I have gone through all of the "ok today I would have flown out, about now I would have been driving through the mountains seeing burner cars packed to the hilt with stuff seeing smiles, hugs, and lots of beautiful people in the rest stops. I would have been very relieved comming around the bend to see the city down on the right not much more than the man, scattered cars and a few structures slowly building. I would have gotten a little laugh as to the hokey ticket takers in black trench coats like some kind of rouge posse protecting the ponderosa. The sadness I would have had at the greeters station when I begged for a spanking but I had already been before, ahhh there's only one first time.

I can only remember how much fun it was to arrive 3 days before the opening bell last year so I could see the playa go from barren waste land to a triving community on the brink of happiness.

and then for the entire week to go by in a flash, but one of the most remarkable flashes ever. I feel a bit empty today. I have sent a few things to the playa to make a few people smile, but although I don't think of myself as selfish, I wonder what will make me smile. I didn't go by choice so I could go on a different adventure in two weeks, but there is still this longing, this empty space in my mind that is lonely without the people, the smell, the taste of what the whole community is about. It has been very enjoyable watching a new generation of virgins get excieted and it only makes my soul hurt more. Saturday night I will be deep in a cave (litterally) but I plan on burning my own little stick man. my rambling is over now, I'm not any better, but hey I am just one man, looking forward to seeing my friends again and going home next year.

I know, getting a little redundant, but live with it.

This year for me has been a really amazing roller coaster ride. Nothing about my life was the same from the minute I got on the playa and as much change as that brought, it continued to change just as intensely as time went on off the playa.

New town to live in, major career change set in motion (still evolving that one), I came to face to face with my issues with alcohol (something that most of you don't even know I have) and most importantly on the playa I met Firefly.

Inside of all that I really have dropped the ball with this community. Last year I was all over the place, posting 3-5 times a day from 4 months before the Burn. We had the most amazing community gather together and on the playa we met, formed bonds that lasted forever and fell in love with each other all through one silly little tribe.

Just being associated with all of you propelled my virgin playa experience into epic proportions.

Obviously this year I've been completely vacant from this tribe and all of you. But most of you remain and as I look through the members list I see that many of you have joined even after last years Burn.

This is what I ask:

Do what you can to attend the 2005 Virgin meetups. When you're there, walk over to me at some point and introduce yourself. Even if you think I already know you. Tell me you're a 2004 Virgin and let me do the rest. I want to thank each and every one of you for making a profound difference in my life. I want to do it in person and I want to do it on the playa.

Thank you all so much. I'll see you on the playa.

Can you believe that it was a year ago that we were all on our journey to our first burn?

I don’t know about you, but my life has done a complete 180 since my virgin trip to the playa…I have made some kick ass friends from this tribe who I can’t wait to see again…I have lost friends from this tribe but learned lessons in life…I broke my first bones in 28 years – my elbow and big toe on my left side (falling down stairs)…had a nervous breakdown…moved to a new town…got a new job…started taking yoga again….and all this happened within a month of each other…and way after I physically left the playa.

The most important things though are the subtle lessons I have learned and the subtle changes that have happened in my life because of my trip to the playa. My perspective in this dream called society has been skewed for the better…my compassion and understanding and connection with myself and others has strengthened…my heart is more open and accepting as well as forgiving and I have no doubt that this is all because of my experience on the playa. I feel more connected and more a part of the greater picture and you know what? It’s nice and scary as hell but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I just felt like sharing this with you, my fellow burners and wanted to see how everyone else’s trip back to reality has been – 6 months later. And I wanted to thank everyone in this tribe for being a part of my life in some way or another and contributing to my on-going journey.

I am not sure if I will make it home this year but know that this tribe and those of you I met have made a lasting impression on me and I know we will meet again…back at home where we belong.

I cried that early morning as I cry now. Thrilled to be alive and Burning with passions. I can hear the dull heartbeat of Black Rock City in my mind. I can feel the energy of it's people... even now. Even this early morning, so many miles away, so many months ago.

Before I sign off this tribe, my "virgin" status fulfilled, I thought I'd pose one last question to the 2004 virgins-no-more.....

What did you do (or not do) this year, that didn't work so well for you?
What advice did you WISH you had followed?
And, what DID work for you, that you think is important?

For me:

-Talk to more people. I think my "so so" burn had a lot to do with the fact that I didn't push my boundaries and "talk to strangers". I didn't wander into any random camps, and sit down and talk. I didn't go to many events (due to lines & such, mostly), and I didn't even connect much with the people in my theme camp. This was the BIG thing I need to change, if I'm going to go next year.

-I wish I'd made plans with a veteran burner to run around with them early in the week, to grok their energy, and how they experience the playa- I wasn't looking for a hand-hold, just someone who has been there, done that, and can get over the basic "I just need to survive!!" instinct that I was crippled with a lot of the week.

-Be more careful about packing the cooler & closing ziplocks (eew, soggy breakfast burritos).

-Also with the cooler- we got a 5-day Coleman cooler which worked GREAT as our only cooler(bought more ice Thursday, still had plenty on Sunday morning). However, if we'd had a partition down the middle so we weren't always digging through the WHOLE thing for the small stuff that tended to get lost down in there...

What I DID do, that worked:

-I volunteered. Well, not until Friday, but I did. As a lapdancer at the Critical Tits party, and it was great- it forced me into interacting, and getting face-to-face (and face-to-breasts, ahem) with some other burners, and out of the insulated pod my sweetie and I had built around ourselves for the week. Great fun!

-I overprepared, made a list, checked it twice, and brought all the things I could find that would be a comfort. Spray bottle with water and lavender, we kept in the cooler. Tasty drinks. Comfy bedding. PLENTY of water, enough for a shower every day. Costumes. Comfy clothing for during the day, when I wasn't quite into the massive costume-kick. A bike. Options for footwear. Peppermint foot lotion. The works!

Yours?

So there is lots of back and forth about the tribe and what should happen to it. Below are the options that I think are best, and I'd like everyone to pitch in and give your thoughts about how to handle it.

Option #1.)
Archive the tribe. Basically let it fall by the wayside, with a drop in posting and activity. No more promotions, just good converstations from all the good peeps here. I'll moderate, but there will not be the same intensity in posting and activity as we're all (mostly) veterans now. The name stays the same, we just hang as friends.

Option #2.)
Start a NEW tribe all together, BM 05 Virgins, and as veterans we take on the job of supporting the new crew of virgins. Johnny D, Miga, Susie... we all play the roles of RedTux and LyingBare and StarFox and lend our support to the newbies that join up. Give like we were given to. We create a new tribe so this one remains the same and have our chill place and lovely home. The challenge is in finding a motivated 05 Virgin who wants to take on the task of moderation and running the show. It's not all that hard, I'll obviously give all the support I can.

Option #3.)
Change this Tribe's name and keep on truckin. Pretty simple, I remain the mod and roll as usual. I won't do as much, in fact I'll try and appoint a newbie to lead, it's just better that way. The advantages are that all this info remains, the pictures and the posts and people can browse easily and at will. It also keeps the membership up and the community strong. The downside is we loose a little identity and the posts will get mixed in. There will be some confusion with even postings, but as long as we are cool with it all, it will work out.

Let me know what you all thing. Remember, this tribe is for all of us, let's do what's best for the whole.

RE: "(by the way did you know that Larry Harvey has been busy getting trademarks for words such as Decompression?)"

This is actually for good reason. The last thing the org needs is for some jackholes to throw a destructive "event" where people scar the land, leave a mess, and people get hurt or worse, and have it be called a Decompression and be tied back to BM, resulting in possible liability claims and a generally tarnished rep. Also, the org doesn't want people tying their for-profit events to BM in order to attract attendees.

If you regional coordinator gets a chance to talk to folks who want to plan a decompression, the co will explain that using the term is fine, and does not require royalties or anything like that. Fine, provided they leave no trace, foster community, and funnel any proceeds back into the event or the art community or something like that, etc.

So yes, there are moves underway to restrict the use of the term Decompression and Burning Man, etc., but I think it's probably for the best. I can see the argument though that it just means more rules...

So, this issue about how to deal with so many newcomers and how to keep the "spirit" of burning man alive clearly touches a nerve... So...an idea...

This was my first Burn and I went with a camp of other newbies w/o any old-timers among us. So it was up to us to "get it," to find a way to participate. We had scoured the forums beforehand, spoken to friends, and did a bunch of research, but what would have really helped is a docent or guide.

On one hand, you'd think - we don't need that. This is an open community - everyone's a guide. Go meet your neighbor or your friend walking down the street - say hey, ask for help, whatever...

But to someone who's new, even if they've read that this is "ok," coming from the real world it's a damn daunting task to approach a stranger, to begin to interact, to know that that's ok, that that's the spirit...

For all of the wisdom behind Burning Man, it's fascinating to me that no one has coordinated volunteers to do the one thing it seems to so desperatly need - help orient the newbies, help them understand what it's all about. I mean hell, I'd love to do this next year.

Some good and bad ways this could be done:
- Imagine having the greeters at the gate hand out a special packet for newbies that includes a sticker or something that they wear that says "I'm new" - ok this might scare them...
- the packet could include a map of special "newbie" posts where you should first go when you get there
- the schedule could include daily newbie orientations - highly recommended fun and interesting ways to get down home fast.
- roaming volunteers - with some common symbol, like the Rangers only less formal, who greet newcomers and show them around or are walking around and have this obvious visual cue which newcomers will know to go up to...

The point is that it's hard for people to get it on their own and until we, those who have been, take the effort to help them participate it's just going to, well, suck. We wouldn't be able to solve all of the discontent and convert all of the onlookers, but dammit we can make a dent!

(an idea for a theme camp?)

it was great:) I could have stayed awake 24/7 and not seen more than a quarter of what there was to see if even that:D got there saturday evening and -- LEFT FRIDAY EVENING.... for my best friends wedding.

from there it just went down hill. I fell asleep at the wheel about 180 miles north of las vegas (had already taken a 3 hour nap so it wasnt like I was driving while dozing) and rolled my car at least 5 times. luckily I made it though with just a couple scratches but the car will never be a car again. its absolutely destroyed. "ALL IS NOT LOST!" I told my self as I waited in the emergency room of the nearest hospital 30 miles down the road to be checked out as OK, "theres a bus that goes to las vegas in the morning, I can get on that and be to the wedding in time" I said to my self.

so I take the 50 dollar motrin the doc gives me, salvage what i can from the car at ths crap yard and walk down the street to the hotel where the bus comes. get to las vegas and find that the hotel ive reservations with is a $20 cab ride off of the strip. "but;" I tell my self "but im here for a wedding not for spectacle and fun, ill take a shower, get some rest and all will be well". get to the room drop my stuff and go into the bath room only to find that THERE ARE ANTS ON THE FLOOR OF IT and it seems that the hotel is all full up along with every other one on the strip so while they are happy after som arm twisting to comp my first night in the room thats all im getting and there is no where for me to go. "oh well;" I think to my self "all things can and must be endured at some point in life"...

Any way im sure you can discern a pattern here and I would like to tell you that it didnt continue but that would be a lie. I'm home now though, i have all my fingers and toes and can still feel all those parts of my body that I could feel before rolling the car so I suppose I should count my self lucky.

I love everyone.

Okay friends and family, I'm back in the default world. Burning Man was... well, it was. It was everything I thought it would be, and at the same time completly unexpected. I arrived on the playa an infant, new and helpless to the universe. Now I am a toddler, having learned to use the basic tools I have but still stumbling around in awe of my surroundings.

There really isn't anywhere to start, or any way I could ever finish, describing my experience. My life is forever changed, touched by the magic of Black Rock City and coated generously with the dust of the playa. I experienced a vast array of emotions, having broken my heart and fallen in love. I was tested by the elements and my own humanity, failing to come through for a friend. I heard a calling, people in need and hurting and found I had the power to heal. I thought I was lost and when I looked around the playa just trying to get my bearings I found myself instead completely at home, exactly where needed to be.

I'll post more of what happened and how it broke down over time, but for now I'll leave you with my Playa name, and how it came to be.

Obviously, the Burn was something that I had never done before. As a Virgin, I was completely raw and rough at the edges. This tribe and my camp, the Nuclear Family, provided for me a leg up on every other Virgin ever to cross the threshold of Black Rock City. I'm sure there have been other people that were more prepared and had more support, but no Virgin has ever FELT the way I did going in. I was able to share that feeling with all of you leading up to the Burn, and when I got there, I never felt more at home.

Constantly though the first couple days I found myself answering questions for other people. From other Virgins to grizzled vets, I pointed people in the right direction or knew what year the first burn took place on that beach in SF. I knew facts about installations, and I knew exactly where to find what in Center Camp. I had tools and I used them. It was as if I had been a part of BM since that first Burn in 1986. One citizen even referred to me as Uber-Virgin.

After the first Gathering of Virgins, I found myself relaxing in the shade of a Nuclear Family tent and the discussion of playa names came about. I don't remember all that was said, or exactly how it come across, but Earnest Ernest a Nuclear Family member and Black Rock Ranger of the highest order simply said, "You've busted the cherries of a lot of virgins, and you've completely blown away the concept of being a virgin, we will call you "Cherry Bomb".

I laughed hard. And so did everyone else in earshot. Jon Fox picked up the call and it quickly spread among the camp. From that point forward, upon the playa I shall be known as Cherry Bomb.

That's it folks, I'm spent. Its been many days but I am still recovering. I have many thanks and apologies to give. I have thing I still need to unpack. When I get the proper time and rest I will recap my adventures. Until then, here are some things you all might want to know:

Yes, on the playa I fell in love. Her name is FireFly and she was a BM'04 Virgin and memeber of Nuclear Family. But don't worry, it's just "playa love" ;)

I completely missed the second gathering and the Naked March to the Man. I overslept. I actually didn't get concious until 3:30pm (playa time) that day. It was rather fitting, as a Virgin I planned something and everyone knows that plans are the first things to go in BRC. My playafication was long complete by Thursday, Virginity taken... this was it's requiem.

I spent most of my time on the playa itself, not wandering the streets. I was called to it and found myself drawn to the expanse of it all.

I, like many others fell victim to the Tripper Trap on more than one night.

More to come, I love you all.

Cherry Bomb

Did I miss something? I was there, Saturday Aug 28 to Sunday night Sep 5.

Is it really all about people in art-cars with megaphones shouting obscenities and playing very bad rap music at dawn?
Is it really all about getting high every night and dancing to fairly anonymous trance and techno?
Is it really all about theme camp hopping from 2:00 to 10:00 in an attempt to see how far you get before becoming shitfaced? (True story, a group of people were doing just that, pushing around a little cart with an patio umbrella, simply looking for their next party. And by the time they got to us, at 6:45, they were all several sheets to the wind.)
I consider myself a pretty tolerant person, but shouting unintelligibly, incessantly at the top of your lungs while wandering through BRC is not radical self-expression, it's just plain annoying. Having an art-car that's shaped like a zebra, and makes high squeeky zebra sounds constantly as it roams the city is not creative, it's annoying. Thinking that the trash you throw into the porta-potty isn't going to harm anything is irresponsible, and possibly dangerous to the community. (The potty vendor threatened to pull-out of the event, twice.)
Showing up late in the week just to drink and party and watch things burn is not only time-consuming and expensive, it's also stupid. I met someone Saturday morning of the Burn, who swore to me that he'd just arrived earlier that morning, and he'd already been served three cocktails, and proudly proclaimed he would be completely drunk by the time the Man burned.
I encountered what I believe to be the true Burning Man experience only twice the whole week. The first time was on the Playa, filming an art piece that featured wind powered objects spinning on poles. (Been there, seen it before... but at least it was art, as opposed to "art".) A man walked up and began speaking, into my camera. What he said isn't so important as the fact he felt compelled to do it. I have it all on tape, and I don't think I'm gonna edit any of it.
The second time was Sunday before the Temple burned. Over the course of the week, my camp had met and welcomed several people into our little group. A couple of these people stuck around. And on Sunday, helped us take down our camp, even while people who were actually part of our camp disappeared or simply decided they didn't need to help. This completely selfless effort on their part alone saved the week for me.

So, Burning Man didn't become Home for me. I am home now, comfortable and about to crawl into my bed. I'm a little saddened that I didn't experience the life-altering thing that so many of my friends have, but on the whole I'm glad to have experienced it at all. I'm on the fence about returning. Time will tell.

I went to Burning Man for the first time in 2004. I was invited only a few days before the event began, so unfortunately the only thing I brought was a pair of <puny> bisceps and pecs for building our humble abode, the PINK PLEASURE PALACE, found within the ILLUMINATION VILLAGE (the Flaming Lotus Girls were set up in front of our area @ 8 & esplanade).

At first I couldn't believe such an event would take place when I arrived on Saturday afternoon. But by Wednesday the place was packed. I ran across the haters and the veterans who complained incessently, attempting to make us virgins feel inferior.

Well I've seen that trick before, not to mention hearing that one of the previous years saw a ROCKET PROPELLED CAR DOING LAPS AROUND THE SPECTATORS AS THE MAN BURNED! Now don't get me wrong, that must have been cool as all hell, but does anybody think it was a bit foolish as well? That seems to be the case with legacy events, and I think the producers of Burning Man are doing a good job with keeping people safe.

I was initially turned off by all the blatant alcohol induced hedonism and rave atmosphere, but upon realizing the expanse and diversity BM provided, I settled in and made what I wanted of the event: an exploration into the creativity, culture and imagination of the human species. We are truly special and fragile, evidenced by the temple of stars. I felt so humbled and awed by the emotional vulnerability and outpouring left on that structure, blessed just to tread where others had placed their hearts for all to see. The best feeling I hope I never have to feel again.

I hope to see you all out there next year. I'm planning something special. Check out my photos, I think you'll enjoy them.

As I walked to the temple, 20 minutes prior to Sundown Sunday morning there was a mass ascension to the Temple, but not of groups of people but rather individuals, and couples, walking from ALL directions of the playa to one central point in the pre-dawn light, the Temple. Standing on the temple, moments before sunrise surrounded by pictures people left of Loved ones who had past away, soldiers, children, parents, friends, lovers. Stories written on the walls of love, and remembrance. Poems left of days past, and the quietness of hundreds if not thousands of people gathering for one simple moment, the Sunrise. Moments before seeing the first glimps of the Sun, the sounds of chanting and shrilling filled the air and a very very dear friend that had been a mear stranger just days earlier, held me. In the Chilled morning air, we cried as we were suddenly filled with warmth from the first rays of the sun and the friends around us.

This was the last Sunrise for the Temple and Nothing has ever effected me the way that one moment has. The week has passed, friends and stories were made, but that one moment, that one point in time and space, will never be forgotten.
so I talked to the cafe people and they helped me clean up my mess... by the time I had cleaned it all up, the group had dispersed

then I totally missed the other 2 meetups so I'm sorry if I looked like I ran away from the speech, I just got sick is all :(

Anyhow, I had told a person on this list (person #1) that I would pick her up in two hours (because she needed some sleep), but in the meantime I would be tending bar at the Star Lust Lounge. Anyhow about an hour and half later 3 women entered the bar, and one of them (Person #2) acted like she had known me all her life AND looked incredibly like Person #1 (but as it turns out she was just the friendly type and had a thing for guys in kilts and cowboy hats). Plus Person #2 had an accent, but sadly as I recall in hindsight not the same as Person #1. So anyhow, after drinks and other playa adventures, me and Person #2 had been walking the playa for an hour or more when I asked a question about the virgin tribe and she said What?, then it suddenly dawned on me to ask her name. OOOPPS, this was NOT Person #1 and I had now stood up Person #1 Oh shit. well I swung by Person #1's abode but couldn't find her so I was suddenly sad. :( Luckily Person #1 later forgave me, but didn't quite laugh at my story.

For those of you that have posted to the group lamenting that Burning Man was not the life-changing event you were hoping for, consider this.

I'm in my arm-chair philosopher mode now, sipping on a can of cold beverage (the top still encrusted in Playa dust) and telling you that Burning Man changed my life... and it changed yours too.

Practically everything we experience changes our lives. The changes can be positive or negative; they can be controlled or uncontrolled. But as long as we're alive, we're always changing, as a result of the things around us and how we react to them. We change, in some cases, whether we want to or not. If you experienced Burning Man, it changed your life.

If your experience taught you more about yourself than you knew before - even if it's that "I don't like the heat" or "I'm not really a Burner" - it changed your life. If it pushed you to be better organized, better prepared, more tolerant - or the opposite - it affected you and changed your life a little.

Experience is the great teacher. Your job is to learn from experience and help it shape the way you live your life. Take away from every experience you have a little more knowledge of yourself and the world around you, and you will become wise. If you learned anything about yourself, or art, or human nature in general by attending Burning Man, it changed your life.

If you expected a 180-degree change in your life, you may have been expecting too much. But I can almost guarantee that everyone that went to Burning Man and actually participated came away with something that will change their life - even if it's just a miniscule course correction. Maybe you didn't meet your soulmate (despite a trip to the Costco Soulmate Trading Outlet), but did someone thank you for picking up MOOP? The latter happened to me - several times - and changed my attitude a little bit. Did you learn something about someone you knew that you didn't know before? Did that made you closer (or further apart)? Then Burning Man changed you. Did you see something that made you go, "hmmm?" Who knows, but that thought may come back to you in the future and effect a change in you.

So, did Burning Man change my life? Yes it did - in ways I probably don't yet realize. Did it change yours? I bet it did. If, after thinking about the event in this way, you still say it hasn't changed you, then I'm truly sorry. BUT IT STILL CHANGED YOU! If nothing else, You're now more broke than you were before you went!

Okay, enough philosophy. Maybe too many Playa-encrusted canned beverages went into the writing of this, but that's my 2¢ worth.
